Do you want to use your engineering skills to solve some of the world’s biggest problems at a grassroots level? This program is for students looking to explore engineering careers beyond the traditional corporate career path!

UCLA and its local partner, Start Me Up, have identified organizations in Bali that are offering unique engineering internships for students interested in technology, innovation, and social impact. From small-scale renewable energy to coral reef conservation and agriculture, our Bali engineering program offers the opportunity to intern with nonprofits, social enterprises, and micro enterprises, which are tackling some of the world’s biggest sustainability challenges, while operating in the context of an emerging market country. To support you during your internship, Start Me Up will also allocate you a specialist mentor who will help guide you during the program.

Bali is the most famous island in Indonesia – a diverse archipelago nation of over 270 million people and the largest economy in Southeast Asia. The country also claims the second-highest level of biodiversity in the world and is home to orangutans, Komodo dragons, humpback whales, and manta rays.

Internship placements are approximately 8 week long. While completing the on-site internship, students will also be enrolled in 1 or 2 online courses, earning 4-to-8 units of academic credit. Online courses follow Summer Session A and will last for a total of 10 weeks. Students looking to receive financial aid must be enrolled in 2-courses during the program.

This experience has allowed me to see the endless possibilities for engineers to have a positive impact on the environment!
