Study Abroad for Undocumented Students

Study abroad accessibility has come and gone for the undocumented student community. Join the UCLA study abroad office and the in-house immigration attorney at the Undocumented Student Program to learn what study abroad is, which opportunities are accessible, what the current law states, and most importantly what risks and challenges are involved in travelling undocumented

AAPI Abroad: A Student Panel 

Are you interested in studying abroad and curious about what it’s like identifying as Asian, Asian American, or Pacific Islander in another country? Hear from five study abroad alumni from the AAPI community as they reflect on their time abroad.

Being Black Abroad
Do you identify as an ABC student (African/African-American/Afro Latinx/Black/Caribbean)? Want to know more about the ABC student experience abroad? If so, please tune in to the Being Black Abroad information session. During the video, we will explore what it’s like to experience Blackness in different cultural contexts through the lived experiences of ABC study abroad alumni who studied in Barbados, Spain, and France. Important issues like shifting identities and privilege abroad, discrimination abroad, and being abroad during the onset of COVID-19 will be discussed so come ready to learn!

LGBTQIA+ Identity in a Global Context: Resources and Support for Students
Join us as we explore what it means to engage globally as part of the LGBTQIA+ community. We will explore resources available at your campus, as well as hear from students who have experience navigating their LGBTQIA+ identity while engaging in global learning.

Understanding the Experiences of Students with Disabilities and Different Abilities Abroad
Hear from travelers with disabilities who have studied and volunteered abroad about their interactions and experiences in getting around. This video series is provided by Mobility International USA. Founded in 1981, Mobility International USA (MIUSA) is a disability-led non-profit organization headquartered in Eugene, Oregon, USA advancing disability rights and leadership globally. Study Abroad and Social Identities
Within the context of dual pandemics of Covid19 and racial injustice, fostering spaces of inclusion and belonging has never been more important – both at home and abroad. Summer Programs

UCLA Travel Study
Travel Study programs combine the excitement of study abroad with the academic rigor of classes taught by UCLA faculty. Study on location around the world for three to six weeks on a summer program led by UCLA professors. These programs are highly structured and include excursions, making the city into your classroom. You will earn UCLA credit, facilitating degree progress. Students from other UC campuses and outside universities are welcome!

UCLA Global Internship Program
Don’t just study abroad, work abroad! This session will discuss how you can gain practical work experience in your career field, while earning academic credit. Academic majors and minors currently offering programs include: Biology, Education, Engineering, Global Health, Global Studies, Honors, International Development Studies, International and Area Studies, Political Science, and Public Affairs.

Summer Study Abroad
Curious about studying abroad, but don’t know where to start or when you should go abroad? At this session, you’ll learn about summer programs offered by UCLA and UCEAP. This session will cover the fundamentals of studying abroad including applications, financial aid, scholarships, credit, and more!

Money Matters

UCLA Financial Aid for Study Abroad
Bruins can apply UCLA financial aid to any UC study abroad program! In this session, the UCLA Financial Aid Office will discuss how eligible students can use UCLA financial aid on a study abroad program.

Boren Scholarship
The Boren Scholarship provides awards of up to $25,000 to U.S. undergraduate students to study a foreign language in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Boren Scholars are eligible for exclusive opportunities and preferential consideration for federal government jobs.

How to Make Study Abroad Affordable
This workshop is tailored for all students who are wondering how to finance their study abroad experience and how to make it affordable! The goals of the workshop are to clarify the costs of study abroad, how to select a more affordable program, explain how UCLA financial aid works, and to highlight scholarships opportunities.

Study Abroad Scholarships
Don’t let financial limitations get in the way of your study abroad adventure. Learn about available scholarships from UCLA and external providers, how to find scholarships online and how to submit a strong and competitive application. Understanding Study Abroad Fees for Out-of-State Students
Are you an out-of-state student wanting to study abroad? Do you wonder how non-resident supplemental tuition is added to the total cost of study abroad? Join this session to understand how non-resident supplemental tuition is assessed, which programs are exempt from this supplemental tuition, and which term(s) could save you thousands!

Gilman Scholarship for Studying or Interning Abroad
The Benjamin A. Gilman Scholarship provides up to $5,000 for federal Pell Grant recipients to participate in study abroad or internship programs throughout the world. In this presentation, you will get helpful tips from Gilman Alumni and learn how to become a competitive candidate.
