Eligibility
The Summer Physics programs consist of two, four-week sessions. These are intensive, fast-paced programs. We encourage all students interested in participating to take the Math Readiness Test to informally determine preparedness for the program.
Eligibility:
✓ Math Prerequisites: Must be completed by the end of Winter 2025. Exceptions to this policy can be considered on a case-by-case basis for students with a 3.0+ GPA in core STEM courses.
-
- Physics for Life Science: Math 3AB, Math 31AB, or LS30AB
- Physics for Physical Science: Math 31AB and 32A, (32B recommended)
✓ Cumulative GPA: 2.50 for University College Dublin or 2.90 for the University of Glasgow

Application Process for Summer 2025
Step 1: View Deadlines– Applications will open on Wednesday, November 14th at 9:00am and close on Wednesday, February 19th, 2025 at 11:59pm.
Step 2: Apply – Complete, both, the UCEAP application and UCLA IEO Application for your preferred program.
Step 3: Receive your Nomination – The IEO will then review your application to ensure you meet the eligibility criteria. Provided you meet and maintain the eligibility requirements, there is no reason why you shouldn’t receive a nomination. You will receive your program nomination via email by the end of February. Once you receive your nomination, you will have secured a spot on your respective program!
FAQ
Will these programs satisfy the Physics 5ABC or 1ABC series?
- While previously Bruins were able to satisfy the complete Physics 5ABC or 1ABC series, starting Summer 2022 they can only satisfy Physics 5AB or 1AB on the respective track.
Which UCEAP Summer Physics Programs are offered for the Summer 2025 term?
- Ireland – University College Dublin
- Scotland – University of Glasgow
Is the Physics for Physical Science track available at both locations?
- No. This track is only available in Scotland at the University of Glasgow.
Can I apply for more than one program?
- No. The IEO only permits one application per study abroad term.
Are these programs limited space?
- No. We expect to accommodate all interested students.
Is there financial aid available for these programs?
- Eligible students can use their UCLA financial aid on these programs.
Will medical schools accept this program?
- The UCLA IEO cannot guarantee that medical schools will accept this coursework. Students are responsible for consulting with the medical schools of interest for confirmation. Nonetheless, since as early as summer of 2011 we have had over 1000 UCLA students, mostly pre-meds, complete these programs and successfully apply to medical schools across the U.S without an issue. The coursework from these programs is converted into UC credit and shows up on your UCLA transcript. There is no transcript from the host institution.
