One way to fund your study abroad program is to apply for scholarships! It’s important to apply as early as possible, so pay attention to application dates and deadlines.

Program-Specific Scholarships:

UCEAP

UCEAP Scholarships –  Scholarship options offered by UCEAP exclusively for UC students participating on UCEAP programs.
UCEAP First Generation Scholarship – Special funding program for first-generation college students participating on a UCEAP program.
Komar Shideler Study Abroad Scholarship – Highest preference is given to students pursuing a major or minor in Comparative Literature or Scandinavian Languages, followed by students in the Humanities with high financial need.
Shirley and Walter Wang Study Abroad Scholarship – Designed for middle-income students, with a preference for first-generation and STEM students.
Harry C. Sigman Scholarship –  Provides funding for UCLA students to study abroad in Israel.
Mudie-Glaser Scholarship –  For UCLA students attending one of UCEAP’s programs at The Hebrew University of Jerusalem in Israel.
UCLA ELTS Department Scholarships –  Provides funding for UCLA students to study abroad in France or Germany.
UK Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarship – Provides funding for UCLA students to study or intern in the United Kingdom. Students must be participating in a UCLA or UCEAP study abroad program.

UCLA Travel Study

UCLA ELTS Department Scholarships –  Provides funding for UCLA students to study abroad in France or Germany.
UCLA Global Studies Scholarship – For students attending the Global Studies Travel Study Program.
Komar Shideler Study Abroad Scholarship – Highest preference is given to students pursuing a major or minor in Comparative Literature or Scandinavian Languages, followed by students in the Humanities with high financial need. Students participating in the Travel Study Program – ELTS: In the footsteps of Hans Christian Andersen, with high financial need and no previous study abroad experience will also be considered.
Shirley and Walter Wang Study Abroad Scholarship – Designed for middle-income students, with a preference for first-generation and STEM students.
UCLA Travel Study Scholarship –  Provides funding for UCLA students enrolled in any Travel Study Program who is willing to help promote the program through content creation and participation in promotional events. The scholarship covers 50% of program fees.
UCLA Spanish & Portuguese Department –  For students participating in Travel Study programs directed by the Department of Spanish and Portuguese. Award amount range from $500 to $1,000.
UK Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarship – Provides funding for UCLA students to study or intern in the United Kingdom. Students must be participating in a UCLA or UCEAP study abroad program.

UCLA Global Internships

Kramer and Siebert International Internship Scholarship –  For Global Affairs Internship participants. Awards average $1,000.
UCLA Global Internship Program Scholarship – For UCLA undergraduate students participating in the Global Internship Program during the summer. Awards up to $3,000.
Shirley and Walter Wang Study Abroad Scholarship – Designed for middle-income students, with a preference for first-generation and STEM students.
UK Undergraduate Study Abroad Scholarship – Provides funding for UCLA students to study or intern in the United Kingdom. Students must be participating in a UCLA or UCEAP study abroad program.  Awards up to $2,000.
Center for Community Engagement Internship Award – For Global Affairs and Public Affairs Internship participants. Awards of up to $5,000.

UCLA Global Cities

UCLA Global Cities Scholarships –  For Global Cities participants who want to engage with the program and help promote it to other students upon return to UCLA. Award up to $2,000.
Shirley and Walter Wang Study Abroad Scholarship – Designed for middle-income students, with a preference for first-generation and STEM. Awards up to $2,000.
Komar Shideler Study Abroad Scholarship – Highest preference is given to students pursuing a major or minor in Comparative Literature or Scandinavian Languages, followed by students in the Humanities with high financial need. Awards up to $2,000.

External Scholarships:

National Scholarships

Critical Need Language Award (CNLA)  – For U.S. citizens studying a critical need language while abroad. This is a supplement award to the Gilman Scholarship. Awards of $3,000 in addition to the Gilman award (up to $8,000 total).
Gilman Scholarship –  For U.S. citizens who receive the Federal Pell Grant. Provides awards of up to $5,000.
Gilman McCain Scholarship – Provides awards of $5,000 for child dependents of active duty service members.
Boren Scholarship – For U.S. citizens who are interested in studying abroad in world regions critical to U.S. interests. Program abroad must include language study from the preferred languages list (found on the Boren website). Provides awards of up to $25,000.
Fund for Education Abroad – Provides scholarships to undergraduate students who are underrepresented in Study Abroad. Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident to be eligible. Financial support of up to $5,000.
Critical Language Scholarship (CLS) – The CLS Program is an intensive overseas language and cultural immersion program for American students enrolled at U.S. colleges and universities. CLS, a program of the U.S. Department of State, is part of a wider government initiative to expand the number of Americans studying and mastering foreign languages that are critical to national security. The CLS Program covers most of the costs of participating in its overseas institutes.

Country/Region Specific Scholarships

Scandinavia The American Scandinavian Foundation – Offers fellowships and grants for U.S. citizens to study in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden.
Sweden AWC Jessie Lokrantz Scholarship – For U.S. citizens who want to study at an accredited Swedish university for at least one year.
Japan Bridging Scholarships for Study Abroad in Japan – For American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan for a semester or an academic year.
UK British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association – Open to all undergraduate students studying abroad for either one semester or one year. The host institution must be BUTEX-affiliated.
East & Southeast Asia Freeman-ASIA – For U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying at the undergraduate level at a two-year or four-year college or university who demonstrate financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia.
Germany DAAD – German Academic Exchange – DAAD offers a variety of scholarships for undergraduates to study and research in Germany from a three-week summer course to internships.
Ireland Inclusive Ireland Scholarship – For undergraduate students currently enrolled at a college or university in the United States, who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color). Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above.
France Campus France – Scholarships, grants and fellowships for study abroad in France
UK, Cambridge The Pembroke College, Cambridge 1976 Scholarship – For UC students who have not studied abroad during their degree program. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5.
Denmark Upper Midwest Rebild Scholarship – Awarded to undergraduates U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are, or will be, attending a college or university level study program in Denmark for a minimum of one semester during the regular academic calendar year. Summer programs and graduate level programs do not qualify.
