The UCLA International Institute is pleased to announce the Shirley and Walter Wang Study Abroad Scholarship, which will provide scholarships to UCLA students who are enrolled in one of the following programs: UCLA Travel Study, UCEAP, UCLA Global Internships or UCLA Global Cities. Four scholarships will be awarded for Summer/Fall 2020 in the amount of $2,000 each.

The Wang Scholarship is designed for middle-income UCLA students, with a preference for First-Generation and STEM students. This scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from Shirley and Walter Wang who wish to encourage UCLA students to study abroad.

Application Criteria

  • Currently enrolled UCLA undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Applicant must be registered for a UCLA Study Abroad program.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident.
  • Applicant must be considered middle income, with family incomes over $80,000 and up to $150,000 per year (as reported in your FAFSA).
  • Applicant must have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of application.

Please note that these scholarships will be awarded through a competitive application process. Preference will be given to applicants who are First-Generation or STEM students, however, all students are encouraged to apply who meet the application criteria.

Application Period

The deadline to apply is March 1, 2020, for students attending a Summer/Fall 2020 program.

Applications will be reviewed by the Shirley and Walter Wang Study Abroad Scholarship Committee. Award announcements will be made by late March 2020.
