The UCLA International Institute is pleased to announce the Shirley and Walter Wang Study Abroad Scholarship, which will provide scholarships to UCLA students who are enrolled in a Summer Travel Study program (international programs only) or applied to a UCEAP program. Ten scholarships will be awarded for Summer 2019 in the amount of $1,000 each.

The Wang Scholarship is designed for middle-income UCLA students, with a preference for First-Generation and STEM students. This scholarship is made possible by a generous gift from Shirley and Walter Wang who wish to encourage UCLA students to study abroad.

Application Criteria

  • Currently enrolled UCLA undergraduate or graduate student.
  • Applicant must be registered for a UCLA Summer Travel Study program (international programs only) or have applied to a UCEAP program.
  • U.S. citizen or permanent resident
  • Applicant must be considered middle income, with family incomes over $114,000 and up to $171,000 per year (as reported in your FAFSA).
  • Applicant must have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of application.

Please note that these scholarships will be awarded through a competitive application process. Preference will be given to applicants who are First-Generation or STEM students, however, all students are encouraged to apply who meet the application criteria.

Application Period

The deadline to apply is March 1, 2019 at 11:59pm, for students attending a Summer 2019 program.

Applications will be reviewed by the Shirley and Walter Wang Study Abroad Scholarship Committee. Award announcements will be made by April 2019, for students attending a Summer 2019 Program.
