Honorable Mentions

“Castle Hopping in Ireland”

This image was taken outside Cashel Castle in Ireland, one of the many castles remaining in Ireland. Our program included a day trip that allowed us to visit and tour many castles in Ireland. In the tour, we learned about the history of each castle and its past and present effects on the local community. Our tour guides taught us about the different cultures in the island and we were able to connect the information to the cultural GE we were taking at the University College Dublin.

“Plaza de España, Sevilla, Spain – A Historic and Cinematic Masterpiece”

This photo shows part of the Plaza de España, a landmark built in 1928 for the Ibero-American Exposition of 1929. As one of the most famous and stunning sites in Sevilla, this plaza is truly a masterpiece to behold. A river runs in a semi circle around the plaza where you can paddle a boat, horse drawn carriages roam around the plaza, and the palace is full of unique and beautiful architectural and artistic designs. Other than its obvious beauty, my draw to this landmark is the fact that George Lucas chose this location to film the palace of Naboo in Attack of the Clones, the 2nd film of the Star Wars prequels, in 2002.

“Afternoon Punting”

My friends and I traveled by train to Cambridge specifically to partake in this cultural experience. Cambridge is known for their relaxing punting tours. We spent 30 minutes on River Cam. As our punter gently steered our boat, we saw much of Cambridge University including the apartment building that Alan Turing formerly lived.

“Granada Archway at Sunset”

This image was taken in Granada, Spain where our program spent most of its time. We would walk through this archway everyday to get to the main part of town for dinner and excursions. The sunsets in Granada were extraordinary, always lighting up the sky in a dramatic fashion. This photo attempts to capture the scene of our daily walks through this stunning and historic city.

Honorable Mention

Studying abroad at Yonsei University under UCEAP (UCLA) was an unforgettable and invaluable experience. I befriended local students, met many other UC students, took classes that adhered to my interests, and explored various cities in South Korea. The spontaneous trips, late-night convenience store meals, and splurge spending are moments that I will reminisce on, and moments that I will forever cherish. This was truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity.

Garren Lee, UCEAP South Korea

Honorable Mention

The best eight weeks of my life studying Physics and Irish Culture during the summer in Dublin, Ireland.
