The UCLA Y&S Nazarian Center for Israel Studies, a constituent of the UCLA International Institute, is pleased to announce the Harry C. Sigman Scholarship which will provide funding for UCLA students who study abroad in Israel. For the 2019-20 academic year, the average scholarship will be awarded in the amount of $3,000, but actual amount will vary depending on program length. The scholarship is designed for UCLA students from any academic background who wish to gain first-hand knowledge of Israel and its people, and to share their experience with others upon return to UCLA. This scholarship is made possible by a generous endowment gift from Harry C. Sigman to encourage students of diverse backgrounds to study in Israel.

Application Criteria

  • Full-time UCLA student willing to complete a service requirement upon their return.
  • Applicant must be attending a study abroad program in Israel.
  • Applicants must have maintained a minimum 3.0 GPA at the time of application

This scholarship will be awarded through a competitive application process. Preference will be given to applicants in their third year who plan to spend a significant amount of time back at UCLA upon returning from Israel.  Preference will also be given to students who do not have significant prior experience living or studying in Israel.  This is commonly defined as travel not exceeding a period four weeks in Israel.
