• CROTON MEGALOCARPUS OIL: Research on the pesticidal effects of croton megalocarpus oil. The following compounds have been determined to be present in the oil: Alkaloids, Saponins, Flavonoids, Flavones, Tannins, Steroids, Terpenoids, Phenols, Glycosides, Phorbol Esters. The intern will be required to Determine the contribution of these compounds in the overall pesticidal effects of the oil. Intern will need to Determine the antifungal properties of the oil.
• BIOFUNGICIDES; The intern will have to conduct Research on organic molecules that have efficacy against botrytis and powdery strains of fungal infections. The intern will also have to do thorough research, and determine:
  • Mechanism of Action of the researched biofungicides;
  • Optimal application methods and doses;
  • Impact in environment and non-target organism;
  • How does long term use of Trichoderma affect the development of resistance in target pests;
  • Economic implications of adopting Trichoderma based pesticide compared to other pesticide;
  • Compatibility with other pesticides.
• ORGANIC CATTLE TICK ACARICIDES; The intern will conduct Research on organic Active Ingredients used in acaricide for cattle ticks control; Ivermectin/ abamectin, Thyme oil, Citronella oil… any other suitable organic ingredient that meets the standard. The intern will need to provide available online efficacy reports on the same.
• SYNTHETIC CATTLE TICK ACARICIDES; Research on the stabilization of an amitraz + cypermethrin based acaricide.
• ORGANIC NATURAL INSECTICIDE SYNERGISTS & EMULSIFIERS – The intern will conduct Research on the available and suitable insecticide synergists and emulsifiers that can be used in organic insecticide formulations. Also additional Research and report on efficacy trials carried out on insecticides containing the synergists & Emulsifier either as a comparison or as alone.
• INSECTICIDES SOLVENTS ALLOWED IN ORGANIC FARMING – The intern shall research on the organic farming approved carrier solvents that have a flash point of >60°c. The intern will also have to determine if the solvents have an added advantage of improving the efficacy and stability of the insecticide. NB: Please download EPA lists 4A and 4B to come up with a list of ingredients for testing that are suitable for use in organic insecticide.

Intern Role and Responsibilities: Your general role & responsibilities will include, but are not limited to:

• • • School math project:
      • The intern will use coding to design multiple choice questions for high school math content. The questions should focus on different types of evacuations (knowledge & understanding, application, communication, thinking and problem solving). The intern needs to ensure the questions should have different level of difficulty to accommodate different students and cover cover a variety of topics to prepare students for in class evaluations. Tech stacks involved: using HTML, CSS, JavaScript & bootstrap
    • Multiple choice question project:
      • The intern will code multiple choice questions using PHP. Questions should include randomization such that it differs every time the question is viewed. The code should be then reviewed by the intern to remove any errors. The intern needs to ensure the code should be easy to understand and well documented. The multiple choice options should include three incorrect answers and one correct one.
    • The intern will develop JavaScript widgets to accompany educational lessons. The widgets should enhance student’s understanding of the concepts and show a walkthrough of the solution. The code should be reviewed by the intern to remove any errors. The code should be easy to understand and well documented. The code should be integrated within the existing course content.
    • The intern will provide updates via our project management tool Wrike. Update the status of each assigned task (new, in progress, completed). Write updates on tasks completed, tasks being worked on for the current day and any challenges. Note any tasks that are at risk of being completed on schedule. Be sure to check other tasks from other staff that may impact your work.
    • Interns may be required to sit in on two meetings a week, and actively taking notes and noting any pressing questions. Fortnightly the intern may meet one-on-one with the supervisor to take time to unpack their thoughts of the meetings and address any questions. Overall, this may allow you as the intern to become more aware of internal and external meeting practices, current company projects, and key company stakeholders.
