One way to fund studying abroad is through the many scholarships provided by UCLA, UCEAP and outside organizations. This is free money that you don’t have to pay back.
If you are counting on scholarships to help fund your study abroad experience, keep in mind these three important steps:
Navigating study abroad scholarships can be challenging. We have simplified the process for you by organizing scholarships in different search groups. This will help you get started on finding the right scholarships to fund your study abroad adventure.

Region/Country Specific Scholarships
Asia (East & Southeast) | Freeman-ASIAÂ –Â For U.S. citizens or permanent residents studying at the undergraduate level at a two-year or four-year college or university who demonstrate financial need to study abroad in East or Southeast Asia. |
Denmark | Upper Midwest Rebild Scholarship – Awarded to undergraduates U.S. citizens and permanent residents who are, or will be, attending a college or university level study program in Denmark for a minimum of one semester during the regular academic calendar year. Summer programs and graduate level programs do not qualify. |
France | Campus France – Scholarships, grants and fellowships for study abroad in France |
Germany | DAAD – German Academic Exchange – DAAD offers a variety of scholarships for undergraduates to study and research in Germany from a three-week summer course to internships. |
Ireland | Inclusive Ireland Scholarship – For undergraduate students currently enrolled at a college or university in the United States, who identify as BIPOC (Black, Indigenous, and People of Color). Must have a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or above. |
Japan | Bridging Scholarships for Study Abroad in Japan –Â For American undergraduate students participating in study-abroad programs in Japan for a semester or an academic year. |
Scandinavia | The American Scandinavian Foundation – Offers fellowships and grants for U.S. citizens to study in Denmark, Finland, Iceland, Norway and Sweden. |
Sweden | AWC Jessie Lokrantz Scholarship – For U.S. citizens who want to study at an accredited Swedish university for at least one year. |
UK | British Universities Transatlantic Exchange Association – Open to all undergraduate students studying abroad for either one semester or one year. The host institution must be BUTEX-affiliated. |
UK, Cambridge | The Pembroke College, Cambridge 1976 Scholarship – For UC students who have not studied abroad during the course of their degree program. Must have a minimum cumulative GPA of 3.5. |
