Your UCLA Financial Aid travels with you!
A financial aid package consists of loans, grants, and scholarships. If you are eligible, it can cover up to the total cost of the program such as airfare, housing, tuition, meals, etc. Aid is available for any term you choose to study abroad.
Students generally receive their Financial Aid Notification (FAN) roughly one month from departure. How much aid you accept will determine your final out-of-pocket program expenses.
To receive any type of financial aid, including UCLA scholarships, you must submit the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) or CA Dream Act Application (CADAA) and we encourage you to submit by the priority deadline. Be sure to complete additional financial aid forms if applicable to your chosen program. Veteran benefits such as CalVet, Chapter 33, and Chapter 31 may apply to Veterans studying abroad.
IEO and the Financial Aid office are here to assist you. Please find us on MyUCLA message center or stop by our office in Murphy Hall.

**Financial aid is only available for ONE program per term. If students are dual enrolled (i.e. UCLA Travel Study & Summer Session C), financial aid will only cover ONE of these program enrollments.
What costs are covered by financial aid?
A financial aid award can cover up to the full cost of a study abroad program – that means tuition, program fees, and out-of-pocket expenses, such as airfare, meals, and books.
This award is comprised of loans, grants, and scholarships. How much aid a student accepts in their Financial Aid Notification (FAN) determines their out-of-pocket costs.
How much financial aid will I receive?
**Please see our Resources & FAQ page for more information on types of aid availabile and sample financial aid samples.**
The UCLA Financial Aid Office should be able to provide you with a very rough financial aid estimate based on your previous FAFSA information, knowing this may change when you actually get packaged.
To receive an aid estimate, pull a budget estimate from your program page and take this to the UCLA Financial Aid Office to review via UCLA Message Center.
Summer Programs: Grants are extremely limited in summer, so be prepared for a financial aid package that consists PRIMARILYÂ of loans.
Disbursement of funds & payments
All accepted financial aid will disburse into a student’s account within 5- 10 days of the program start date. If students do not accept their full financial aid award, they must pay the remaining balance prior to departure.
There are payments or fees that may be due before financial aid disbursement (i.e. airfare, visa/passport fees or housing deposits). This must be paid by the student before financial aid disburses.
