It places special emphasis on the European Union and its regulatory scheme as well as tax treaties between the U.S. and the countries of Europe. The program will feature time in Paris and Brussels with visits to business and cultural sites of interest.

Curriculum

Required Courses

All students will enroll in two required courses.

  • MGMT 109 (4 units)
  • MGMT 127C (4 units)

Course Descriptions

MGMT 109: International Business Law (4 units)

Prerequisites: MGMT 108 recommended but not required.

International Business Law (MGMT 109) offers students an overview of the legal issues that businesses face as they expand their operations to other countries. International litigation, the Convention for the International Sale of Goods, international banking laws, GATT/WTO, NAFTA and United States regulation of foreign businesses will be among the topics covered. Special emphasis will be placed on the European Union and its regulatory scheme.

MGMT 127C: International Taxation (4 units)

Prerequisites:  MGMT 127A recommended but not required.

International Taxation (MGMT 127C) provides students with an understanding of both “inbound” and “outbound” business transactions from a taxation perspective. Learn how the United States treats foreign companies doing business locally and how the United States and foreign countries tax companies who conduct business abroad. The course offers special emphasis on tax treaties between the U. S. and the countries of Europe.

Both courses satisfy requirements for the UCLA Business Economics major and UCLA Accounting minor. Business Economics majors and Accounting minors should consult with their academic advisor about course credit.

Optional Course

MGMT 199: Directed Research (4 units)

If desired, students may choose to enroll in one MGMT 199 course in addition to the two required courses.

Students will write an academically rigorous 15-20 page paper on a topic approved by the instructor. Please note that deadline dates apply even if you plan to travel after the program ends. There is an additional fee for this independent study course.
